Custom Portraits in Oil – A Lasting Legacy

A hand-painted oil portrait is more than just an image—it’s a timeless keepsake that captures the depth, personality, and emotion of its subject. Whether you're looking for an individual portrait, a family portrait, or a commemorative piece, I work closely with you to ensure that every detail reflects the subject’s essence.

Step 1: Consultation

Think about what you want the portrait to capture. If a loved one has a passion for tractors, consider including one in the scene. Focus on emotions, memories, and details that make the piece meaningful—more than just a likeness, a great portrait tells a story.

Step 2: Reference Image

If you have a high-resolution image, great! If not, I can help set up the perfect reference photo, ensuring a strong composition that captures the subject’s personality and story.

Step 3: Sketch & Composition

Once I have a reference image, I start by applying a neutral wash to the canvas. I then sketch the subject on the canvas.

Step 4: Blocking & Painting

I block in the main shapes, and gradually refine the details. Layer by layer, the portrait comes to life, capturing depth, emotion, and character.

Step 5: Enjoy!

A finished portrait is more than a painting—it’s a timeless keepsake that preserves the subject’s essence. Whether displayed or passed down, it becomes a lasting tribute to cherished moments and loved ones.
